Paper cutting art and they make lovely gifts

All you will need: Cardboard (4x the size of your picture), scalpel / scissors, paper (slightly bigger than the picture to frame, PVA glue, split pins, paint

[1] Cut a wavy shape out of card slightly bigger than the picture you are framing. Cut a second, slightly bigger than the last. These make the front of the frame. Cut a hole in the same place of both shapes slightly smaller than the picture (make the hole in the smaller shape slightly larger than in the larger shape). Cut a third card shape, a rectangle slightly bigger than the picture, but smaller than the largest shape (to act as the back).

[2] Make holes through the back into the larger shape in places where the smaller shape covers, so that the heads of the split pins can be covered.

[3] Paint the front shapes by flicking paint onto them. Use black paint to colour the back of the larger shape, the inside of the hole in the larger shape, and the back of the back. Using the paper, cut a shape slightly larger than the small front piece, to outline it.

[4] Assemble the frame: pin the larger front shape and back piece. Stick the paper and smaller front piece to the larger front piece and paint with PVA glue to give a shine. Once dry, take off the back by un-doing the split pins and insert your picture. Replace the back and hang on the wall!
